Boldly Breaking Ground in Irvine

On July 20, the Hoag Hospital Foundation celebrated the groundbreaking of the Sun Family Campus in Irvine, marking a major milestone in Hoag’s expansion.

To celebrate the future of Hoag’s new Sun Family Campus in Irvine, the Hoag Hospital Foundation hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on July 20 with city leaders, construction and design partners, donors, clinicians, and staff. City of Irvine Mayor Farrah Khan spoke alongside Hoag CEO and President Robert Braithwaite, Hoag Hospital Foundation President Flynn Andrizzi, PhD, Hoag Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Marcy Brown, and Dara Sun Mullarkey, daughter of Diana and David Sun, whose transformational $50 million gift named the campus.

Much like the city where it resides, the Sun Family Campus promises to be a thriving hub of innovation. A key driver of that innovation is leading-edge technology for superior patient care and a more streamlined health care experience from arrival to discharge.

Drawing from the most advanced thinking in health care, architecture, hospitality, and customer service, Hoag’s approach is dynamic and incorporates a wide range of innovations, including touch-free check-in, AI-assisted imaging systems, a state-of-the-art surgical platform, and more in one beautiful, easy-to-access location that more closely resembles a village or university than a traditional hospital tower. For Hoag physicians, the result will be an array of best-in-class tools across the campus’ specialized service centers to elevate prevention, diagnosis, and collaboration on the treatment of complex disease.

With construction underway, the Foundation is engaging the community to raise $300 million toward the $1 billion project. More than $151 million has been donated to date. Friends, family, and neighbors can join Hoag in being bold by supporting more innovative new spaces for advanced patient care in Irvine.
